The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) was formed in 1976 by a group of home inspectors wanting to enhance the professionalism of their field. ASHI is the oldest and most respected not-for-profit professional association for independent home inspectors.
The American Society of Home Inspectors advocates a high standard of practice and a code of ethics for it's members. The AHSI Standards of Practice have become part of legislation in many states. The ASHI Standards of Practice have also become the authoritative standards for professional home inspections.
To protect the consumer, ASHI inspectors also subscribe to ASHI's Code of Ethics. This code prohibits inspectors from engaging in activities that would compromise their objectivity. This provides the assurance that inspectors will not solicit repair work based on their inspections.
ASHI also serves as a public interest group. ASHI provides helpful and accurate information to home buyers about the home purhasing process and home maintenance.
